Bicycle counters
In 2018, the number of cyclists at the bicycle counters in Stuttgart rose significantly compared with the previous year. At the König-Karls-Brücke, the number climbed by 20 percent and at Böblinger Strasse by 26 percent. While an average of 1,305 cyclists per day were counted at the two counting points in 2014, by 2018 the figure had risen to 1,790 per day.

Five million euros per year
The BMVI supports the voluntary equipping and retrofitting of trucks and buses with turning assistance systems with five million euros per year. Applications for funding can be submitted from 21 January 2019.

The TINK cargo bicycle-sharing system was tested in Constance for two years. Each TINK bike was used for an average of 2 hours and 47 minutes per day. The overwhelming response has now led to it becoming an integral part of the city's cycle hire scheme.

In December 2018, the Federal Environment Agency and the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) published a brochure that picks up and continues the discussion started at the "International Cycling Conference 2017" in Mannheim. The authors, consisting of scientists, practitioners and experts, come from all over the world.

The film project is intended to reduce language barriers and provide information on traffic rules in Germany. The focus is on the integration and consideration of all people in road traffic. The films are translated into English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Turkish and subtitled.

Best for bike 2019
Max Raabe will get the award of the 2019 "Cycling-friendliest person" in Germany. Previous award winners, amongst others were Sebastian Krumbiegel, Peter Lohmeyer, Inge Niedek, Michaela May, Wigald Boning, Wolke Hegenbarth, Hannes Jaenicke und Christian Ude.

DB Schenker has launched a service bike programme with the help of company bike solutions. In addition, the employees are called upon to leave the car on a total distance of almost 770,000 kilometres for the benefit of the bicycle over the next two years.

Test track funded by the National Climate Initiative (NKI)
On 12.11.2018 in Erftstadt near Cologne, Germany's Federal Minister for the Environment, Svenja Schulze, inaugurated Germany's first cycle path to be covered with robust photovoltaic modules and powered by solar energy. The electricity generated will illuminate the cycle path, operate the monitoring station and supply other municipal properties.

Cargo bike meeting in Stuttgart
"Electric cargo bikes can already replace many cars today. We are pleased to have such a great success with our promotion. Anyone who rides an electric cargo bike has taken the lead in mobility transition" said Transport Minister Hermann to over 60 users of electric cargo bikes who gathered in the courtyard of honour of the New Palace in Stuttgart on 4 November 2018.
