W 3-Professorship for “Bicycle Traffic Planning”
(legal basis: W 3 LBesG NRW; § 36 HG NRW).
The professorship is the "Endowed Professorship for Cycling" of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), which is permanent. Since the University of Wuppertal has applied for this professorship under the title: "Planning Tools for Cycling - Simulation, Real Laboratory, Transformation", the future research focus of the holder of the position will be on the development of methods and solutions for the planning and operation of bicycle traffic systems and infrastructures.
We are looking for a personality with research and teaching experience in the fields of traffic planning, traffic infrastructure planning, traffic safety and traffic engineering. Experience in acquiring and managing research projects is expected.
Active participation in the Department of Transportation and the faculty's committees is expected.
The Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering of the University of Wuppertal is following the socially demanded intention of increasing interdisciplinary education to promote building culture. The position will be based in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering. It is to be taken up as soon as possible.
Willingness to develop the professorship in research and teaching in interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues within the faculty is expected.
The professorship is located in the Department of Transportation of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The centre comprises 7 full university and 3 honorary professorships and focuses on the integrated research and design of a sustainable transport system.
The willingness to actively acquire national and international third-party funds is expected. It is planned that the future jobholder will be involved in the profile line "Environment, Engineering and Safety" and the profile core "Mobility and Energy".
It is expected that the holder of the position is actively involved in the promotion of young scientists. Applicants should represent the field of cycle traffic planning in its entirety during their apprenticeship.
The tasks to be performed include:
- Teaching in the bachelor/master courses of the faculty in German language
- Participation in the development of a new study focus on bicycle traffic planning
- Courses offered in the future major field of study "cycle traffic planning.
The successful candidate is expected to actively support academic autonomy at the university.

Completion of an appropriate degree in engineering. Besides pedagogical suitability, which has to be proven by appropriate previous experience or, in exceptional cases, demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure, the applicant is expected to have a particular aptitude for scientific work substantiated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate. Further scientific achievements must be demonstrated additionally and will be evaluated exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment procedure. They include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
