Bicycle industry on the fast lane – figures on bike sales by VSF
In Germany, most bikes are sold by local retailers, which generate around 80 percent of sales. According to a survey by the bicycle trade association VSF under his member companies, the average selling price for bicycles (incl. pedelecs) is about 1,339 euros. This corresponds to an increase of 13.9 percent compared with the survey of the association two years ago.
The average price for pedelecs is 2,785 euros (2015). This corresponds to an increase of 9 percent since 2013. 4.7 percent of all sold electric bikes by VSF-member companies are fast pedelecs (electric support up to 45 km/h).
A comparison with the latest figures by the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt KBA (Federal Motor Vehicle Transport Authority) shows, that last year 40 times more electric bikes were sold than electric cars. In absolute terms, the ratio is 12,363 electric cars to 535,000 pedelecs (see chart above, translation into English: Vergleich Fahrrad- und Automobilbestand = number of bicycles and vehicles/ Gesamtbestand PKW und Fahrräder Stichtag 1.1.2016 = Vehicles and Bicycles in total on January, 1st 2016 / Zulassung E-Autos und Verkauf E-Bikes/Pedelecs 2015 = car registration and sales e-bikes/pedelecs in 2015 / Stück in Millionen = / (number of ... ) in millions / Stück in Hunderttausend = (number of ... ) in hundred thousand)
