Senior transport planners for more 30 km/h speed limit zones in urban areas
Planners of the traffic planning commission of the Association of German Cities (Deutscher Städtetag) pleaded on their 90th meeting on 21./22.4.2016 in Erlangen for more 30 km/h speed limits in urban areas.
Excerpt of the resolution:
A simplified directive for 30 km/h speed limit zones contributes to
- higher road safety
- better noise prevention
- selectively improved air quality
- an extension in the design of traffic areas
Also the current resolution by the Association of German Cities is welcomed, which says that
- the traffic tempo adjustment is a decisive contribution for higher road safety and more efficient noise prevention in cities and towns
- the federal government should ask the Bundesrat to implement an experimental clause in the traffic regulations, which allows cities to try out general amendments in road design and traffic management in order to approve them for their lasting integration in the traffic regulations.
