First cycle highway opened in Hesse
On 6 June 2019, Hesse's Minister of Transport, Tarek Al-Wazir, opened the first section of the Hessian cycle highway between Egelsbach railway station and Darmstadt-Wixhausen.
The four metre wide asphalt road with a length of around 3.6 kilometres cost around 3.8 million euros. 75 photovoltaic luminaires controlled by a motion detection system were installed. 80 percent of the financing was provided by the state of Hesse, 20 percent by the district of Offenbach and the municipalities of Darmstadt, Egelsbach and Erzhausen.
