Federal Government supports heavy-duty bicycles with electric drive support

Since March 1, 2018, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety funds "heavy-duty bicycles with electric drive support (heavy-duty electric bicycles)", which have a payload of at least 150 kilograms, with up to 2,500 euros. The funding is part of the National Climate Protection Directive. The funding is announced until February, 28, 2021.

The following are entitled to apply

  1. private enterprises (irrespective of their legal form (including cooperatives) and type of activity (including freelancers)
  2. companies with municipal participation
  3. municipalities (cities, municipalities, districts) and associations in which only municipalities are involved
  4. public, non-profit and religious community universities (but not adult education centres), research institutions and hospitals or their sponsors

The funding is for e-cargo-bicycles and e-cargo-trailers with a minimum transport volume of one cubic meter (m³) and a payload of at least 150 kilograms. The maximum funding amount is set at 30 percent (but no more than 2,500 euros) of the eligible expenditure or costs.
