New support programme for turning assistants - BMVI supports the voluntary equipping and retrofitting of trucks and buses with turning assist systems with five million euros a year

Turning assistants are available technical solutions that can save lives in road traffic: They warn truck and bus drivers if they would endanger pedestrians or cyclists when turning off. Since a Europe-wide solution is still being developed, the BMVI has been providing national incentives for a voluntary commitment since 2018 with the "Turn Assist Scheme".

The BMVI is now launching an additional funding programme for the voluntary fitting out or retrofitting of trucks and buses with turning assistance systems. The aim is to prevent serious accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians. The new funding programme will have a volume of five million euros per year and is expected to run for five years.
